In most cases, the market value of property is valued. However, depending on the reasons of the valuation, value may be assessed value, insured value, actual cash value or investment value.

The AIC grants two professional designations – the Accredited Appraiser Canadian Institute (AACI™) and the Canadian Residential Appraiser (CRA™). A CRA is qualified to undertake any valuation and consulting assignment on dwellings not more than four self-contained family housing units or on individual undeveloped residential dwelling sites.
